EA announced yesterday that the multiplayer beta for Star Wars Battlefront will be available in early October. As the text on the official Star Wars Battlefront page reads: “Ever since we revealed Star Wars™ Battlefront™ in April at Star Wars™ Celebration, you’ve been asking us if there would be a Beta. Today, we are thrilled to finally be able to answer that question, and the answer is yes!”
Gamers from all around the world rejoice, October is around the corner and we will finally have the chance to try out one of the most expected games of 2015. The beta will be available for PC, Xbone and PS4 and will bring a couple of game modes to play.
The first mode offered is Walker Assault, a huge, 40 player game mode on the iconic planet of Hoth. There you’ll be presented with a chance to play as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, depending on which side you’ll choose. The second mode that will be available is a survival mission on Tatooine “where you and a Rebel friend must fight back waves of Imperial forces.” That sounds nice.
But wait, there’s more. One more mode will be offered to play in the beta, Drop Zone. Currently, there aren’t any information regarding this mode but DICE told us that they’ll share more information in the weeks ahead. Drop Zone is a new mode that will have its premiere in the new Battlefront and we really hope that DICE have something unique and exciting for us with this mode.
The Star Wars companion experience will also be a part of the beta. Basically, It’s a smartphone app that will let you check out your progress in the main game (Battlefront), customize your loadouts and appearance of your avatar, connect with your friends and “get notified when they’re playing Star Wars Battlefront – as well as gather intel on their stats and progression so you can see how you match up!” .
Too much with the social integration EA? Oh well.
The strategic card game Base Command will also be a part of companion experience and with it you’ll be able to earn in-game credits that unlock Star Cards (what?), weapons and more. Just don’t put too many microtransactions in the game and will be happy.
The companion app will be available on the web, on the Apple app store, and on the Google Play before the release of the Star Wars battlefront, but an exact date isn’t mentioned.
That’s good news, I just hope that the beta will be available for more than a couple of days and that the servers will manage the (expected) overload of players that’ll want to play it because let’s be honest, every Star Wars fan awaits this game for years now and patience slowly disappears.
